Six reasons to love your job as a Recruitment Consultant.
Ever thought about a career in Recruitment, or currently working in the industry and contemplating a move? Sam Dick who is a Recruitment Consultant within our Accounting Team has shared his thoughts about what he loves about the job and how Archway supports his recruitment style and development!
Great career progression.
Recruitment is certainly a career where what you put in is what you get out. I’ve found with recruitment the longer you do it, the more fulfilling it is. Once you are established in a market and have a network it becomes a lot easier, and your progression can feel like it happens rapidly. Archway also provide clear targets for promotion which is great so you know exactly what you need to achieve to hit your next goal.
You create opportunities.
Probably the best thing about being a recruiter is making good things happen for candidates. By understanding candidates career ambitions, helping them secure a job that lands in career progression or a pay rise can have significant impact on their lives. There is so much satisfaction in seeing a candidate grow through your recruitment placements.
I get a great deal of satisfaction helping a candidate land their dream job. I’ve had a few placements recently where we’ve had candidates move to be closer to loved ones and they have managed to line up a great role and promotion in the process – it really is an awesome feeling when it all lines up for your candidates.
Now that I’ve been in recruitment for six years you start to see real progress through candidates’ careers. Its humbling knowing you’ve played a part in helping shape it, whether that’s from a placement or supporting them with career advice.
Successful recruitment is a win/win/win.
There is something intensely rewarding about doing a job where everyone is a winner! Not many commercial scenarios end up with everyone feeling like they have won. In the perfect recruitment placement, you’ll have a happy client with a great new employee, a happy candidate with a new job and a happy consultant, as you’ve just made commission.
Super social.
Recruitment is definitely a social role. It’s great if you are a people person and enjoy building networks and meeting people. There are certainly lots of coffee and beer catchups. It was particularly great for me as I’m originally from Dunedin and moved to Wellington after doing my OE in the UK. I initially had a pretty small social circle here, so I enjoyed meeting lots of great people through work.
No two days are the same.
The great thing about recruitment is every day is different and there really is no routine, or typical day. What you do to fill one role, won’t be the same as the next. One day you could be working on a project to build a new accounting team and the next you might be working on a longer-term role at a different level and location. It certainly keeps you on your toes! The variety can make each day challenging but it does keep the job exciting and the days interesting.
Great deal of autonomy.
The great thing about Archway Recruitment has been the level of autonomy they give consultants. I’ve certainly created my own recruitment style over the years and have enjoyed having the autonomy to solidify that at Archway. You realise quickly recruitment is about building your relationships and being a consultant that supports candidates with their career and clients with their team. It’s not always about a job, it’s about the relationship.
