New Year, New Job?
If you’ve kicked off 2022 with the goal to get a new job, then you are not alone. A recent survey showed nearly 50% of New Zealanders are considering a new job in 2022!
There has been a lot of talk about ‘The Great Resignation’ where overseas saw a record 4.4 million Americans quit jobs in September 2021 and nearly 400,000 Britons change employers in the third quarter of the year – these are the highest ever level.
With more people open to jobs employers will need to ensure they are putting together a job offering and package to tempt.
We’ve put together a plan to get you ready for you job hunt in 2022.
1. Update your resume
First things first, make sure your resume is ready to go! Updating your resume with all your recent qualifications and experience to ensure it shares the best information about you. Make sure you customise your resume for each job application ensuring you highlight key experience and strengths that relate back to the job advert.
2. Think about your career path
Every time we meet with a new candidate at Archway, we want to know what your five year career plan looks like, not just what your next job is going to be. Knowing where you want to be in five years’ time helps create a career plan around your next roles and experience you’ll need to hit that five-year target.
3. Find a recruiter
Find a recruitment consultant that you want to work with to help you find your dream role! Set up an initial interview or discussion to talk about your previous experience, what you love in a job, what you are looking for next and locations you might be interested in. During this discussion find out more about your recruiters style, how they find roles and what their experience at network within your industry is like.

4. Ensure your LinkedIn profile is up to date
These days, your employer might spend more time looking at your LinkedIn profile than they do a resume. LinkedIn is a great way to get a bit more information across about your experience, personality, and recommendations. Speak to old colleagues and bosses to get your recommendations and reviews up to date – these helps tell a more behind the scenes story about how you work, your work ethic and some of your strengths.
You can also update LinkedIn to show that you are interested in opportunities. This will tell recruiters you are on the job hunt.
5. Reach out to your network
Reach out to friends, old colleagues, and people you trust to let them know you are considering a new role in 2022. Be careful who you tell, keep your cards close to your chest. You never know what might be on offer within your network.
6. Setup job alerts
Being notified about jobs that meet your criteria is a great way to shortcut a long search. Check out our job search setting to populate your search and be automatically notified when a job comes up that may suit you.
