Who are you?
I’m Emma! Em, or EJ… but mostly just Emma. I was born and raised in the Hawke’s Bay, then spent four years studying in Dunedin. I moved to Wellington in 2022 for my final year of study and fell in love with the city. I love being close enough to pop home on the weekend to see my cat Kevin, and it’s nice to run into my friends and family while I’m there.
What do you do at Archway Recruitment?
I started here at Archway soon after I finished studying in December 2022. As a Talent Manager in the Corporate Services field, I work with Principal Consultant Tracey Bevan to assist in the recruitment process for Business Support, HR and Marketing & Communications.
What do you do when you aren’t at work?
Now that I have my weekends and evenings back from studying, I’m trying to figure that out myself! I’ve recently become a first-time plant mum so keeping them alive is my main goal, but most of the time you can find me with my friends! That could be a walk along the waterfront, catching up for coffee, brunch or a cheeky G&T.
How many candidates on average do you interview a month?
It varies a lot, but in the short time I’ve been here… maybe 20 on average? Talk about hitting the ground running!
If you could give a candidate one piece of advice what would it be?
One piece of advice I would give to candidates is to really pay close attention to the question – what’s really being asked – and tailor your answer accordingly.
If you could give a client one piece of advice what would it be?
I mostly deal with candidates but my best advice would be to move quick! The best candidates get snatched up quickly.
What career did you want to have when you were a kid?
My dream was to be an actress! As someone who gets very emotionally invested in movies, I wanted to be involved in that storytelling process. I sometimes find behind-the-scenes content even more fascinating than the movie itself.
Do you have a party trick?
One of my thumbs is longer than the other, it’s weirdly flexible so I can bend it in funny ways.
Is this your second career? What is your first?
Professional student! I spent four years in Dunedin studying Neuroscience and Psychology, then came to Wellington and studied for another year getting my Honours in Psychology.
